When it comes to creative gift wrapping, nothing elevates a package like a fluffy handmade tulle bow. These bows add softness, volume, and that boutique-style look customers love—especially during the holiday season. As a Los Angeles gift wrapping artist, I’ve used every type of ribbon and material you can find, and tulle remains one of the most versatile. It's lightweight, inexpensive, and gives your gifts that dreamy, luxurious finish without the drama of wired ribbon.
Whether you're wrapping for clients or just adding flair to your own presents, tulle bows are a fun project that instantly levels up your wrapping game. They’re also a great technique to know if you're learning how to start a gift wrapping business—because customers love the look of custom embellishments. Below is one of my go-to beginner-friendly methods, using affordable materials you can order directly from Amazon.

Before we dive into the steps, a quick PSA from your favorite crafting mentor: DO NOT buy glitter tulle. This project is already labor-intensive. Glitter will make it chaotic. It will travel. It will cling. It will somehow end up in your mouth. And you’ll still find sparkles in July. Stick to matte tulle and save your sanity.

Step-by-Step Instructions
STEP 1: Layer Your Colors
Cut 8–12 strips of tulle about 18–24 inches long. If you want volume, use multiple colors — light + dark combo creates that boutique dimension.
STEP 2: Stack and Fold
Pile your strips on top of each other and accordion-fold them. Keep folds 1–2 inches wide so the bow has texture and bounce.
STEP 3: Secure the Center
Use your floral wire (linked above) to cinch the center tightly. The tighter the middle, the fluffier the final shape.
STEP 4: Fluff and Shape
Pull apart each layer, rotating as you fluff. Separate each color so the tones blend softly instead of clumping.
Pro Tips
Use two or three tulle colors for depth
Trim uneven ends for a clean finish
Pre-fluff before attaching to the gift
Skip glitter tulle unless you enjoy chaos
